Advertising Policy
How ads and sponsorships are separated from obituary editorial content
We may use advertising to support the site, but advertisers do not control obituary facts, correction decisions, source selection or family privacy reviews.
Editorial Independence
- Advertisers cannot pay to change obituary facts or remove legitimate corrections.
- Sponsored content must be clearly labeled.
- Affiliate or advertising relationships must not replace official government links.
- We do not sell priority correction handling or family privacy outcomes.
- We avoid ad placements that exploit grief, impersonate official records offices or pressure urgent purchases.
Restricted Advertising Categories
- Fake death certificate services or misleading “official” record offers.
- High-pressure funeral or cremation offers without clear pricing/disclosure.
- Medical cures, grief exploitation, psychic/medium services or sensational death content.
- Identity-theft, data broker or people-search ads that expose private living-family data.
- Scams, malware, payday loans or misleading government impersonation.
Disclosure Standard
If a page contains sponsored placement, affiliate links or paid recommendations, we will label it clearly. Practical guide pages should still prioritize official sources such as USA.gov, CDC/NCHS, SSA, FTC, VA and USPS where relevant.
