How to Search Jackson Mortuary Recent Obituaries

The official Jackson Mortuary obituary page offers several search tools, including searching obituary text, filtering by date of death and identifying veteran obituaries.

Open the official obituary page. Use Jackson Mortuary’s own website rather than a copied obituary directory.
Search the person’s name. Enter the first and last name. If no match appears, try the surname only.
Search obituary text. If you know a relative, church or other distinctive detail, try the Obituary Text search option.
Use a date-of-death range. Enter approximate start and end dates when the name is common or the death occurred some time ago.
Check the Veterans Only filter. If the person served in the military, the dedicated veteran obituary filter may help.
Open the complete memorial. Compare age, relatives, location and service details. Verify current arrangements before travelling.
Open Jackson Mortuary Official Obituaries Search by name, obituary text, date range or veteran status.
Search example: If you know only a surname and that the funeral was held in Wichita during a particular month, search the surname first. Then add a date range and compare family details rather than trusting the first result.

Searching Wichita and Nearby Communities

Jackson Mortuary serves Wichita and surrounding areas. A person’s home address, place of death, funeral location and burial site may differ.

Wichita

Try Wichita, neighborhood, church, school, employer or family-member information.

Derby and Haysville

When a family connection points south of Wichita, add the town to the obituary search.

Andover and Augusta

Search surrounding communities and consider whether the death occurred in Sedgwick or Butler County.

Maize and Goddard

Use these towns when the surname is common or a memorial lists a suburban address.

Park City and Valley Center

Try northern Sedgwick County town names and funeral or cemetery clues.

Outside Kansas

A Wichita resident may die in another state. Request legal records from the state where the death occurred.

Kansas-specific shortcut: Regardless of which Kansas county registered the death, certified Kansas death records are ordered from Kansas Vital Statistics. Sedgwick County does not issue these certificates.

What If a Jackson Mortuary Obituary Is Missing?

Search another name

Try a nickname, middle initial, maiden name, former surname or surname alone.

Search the obituary text

Use a distinctive relative, church, school or community name when that search option is available.

Widen the dates

Check a broader date-of-death range and remember that publication may occur later.

Contact the funeral home

Call 316-262-5431 if you need to verify whether a public memorial is available.

Some families choose a delayed notice, private service or no public obituary. A missing web result alone does not establish whether someone has died.

See our Obituary Search and Recent Notices Guide for additional search methods.

Who is eligible?

Kansas vital records are not generally open to unrestricted public inspection. Certified copies are available to qualifying immediate family members, legal representatives and people able to prove a direct interest in the record.

When an applicant is not an immediate family member, supporting documentation may be needed to establish the relationship, legal authority or qualifying personal/property interest.

What you may need to prepare

  • Full name of the deceased as shown on the death record.
  • Date of death or a reasonable five-year search period.
  • City, county and state where death occurred.
  • Date of birth or age at death, if known.
  • Funeral home or cemetery information, if available.
  • Your relationship to the deceased.
  • Current acceptable government-issued identification.
  • Proof of legal authority or direct interest, when required.
  • Correct fee and payment method.

How to order a Kansas death certificate

Confirm the death occurred in Kansas. If the person lived in Wichita but died in another state, use that state’s records office.
Review eligibility. Check the KDHE requirements for immediate family or documented direct interest.
Prepare the application. Use the deceased person’s legal name, death information and your current ID.
Choose an order method. Compare mail, walk-in, IKan, online and telephone fees before ordering.
Save confirmation and receipt. Keep your request details and allow for the office’s current processing time.

Obituary Corrections vs. Kansas Death Certificate Corrections

Public memorial

Correct an obituary

Contact Jackson Mortuary or the original obituary publisher. Provide the memorial link, incorrect detail and proposed correction.

Official vital record

Correct a certificate

Contact the funeral home that filed the death record or KDHE Vital Statistics. Correcting a public obituary does not automatically change a government record.

Kansas rules make an important distinction:

  • Personal information may generally be amended through the original submitting funeral director during the first year after filing.
  • After one year, changing personal information generally requires a court order.
  • Medical-certification changes must be requested by the appropriate physician or coroner.
  • There is no amendment charge for qualifying changes made within the first three months.
  • KDHE generally lists a $20 amendment fee after three months, with an exception for medical-certification changes.

Kansas Official Death Certificate Amendment Rules

Family tip: If a newly issued certificate contains a spelling or other personal-data error, raise it promptly with the filing funeral home. The state has different correction procedures depending on how long ago the certificate was filed.

The library also says scans made from its microfilm readers can be saved or emailed without a scanning charge.

How to research an old Wichita obituary

Start with the name and approximate year. Write down maiden names, nicknames and known family members.
Use the matching archive period. Try Wichita Eagle text access for 1984 onward and the image edition for 2018 onward.
Try microfilm for older dates. Ask about Wichita Eagle and Beacon issues when online results are missing.
Save the newspaper details. Record publication name, issue date and page number where possible.

Before 1911: Historical Wichita death records

Kansas state death certificate registration began July 1, 1911. Sedgwick County’s official genealogy guidance says Wichita death records covering 1887–1910 were microfilmed by the city.

Wichita Public Library and the Midwest Historical & Genealogical Society may help locate material from that collection.

Archive tip: Try β€œdied,” β€œdeath notice,” β€œfuneral,” β€œinterment,” β€œburial” or a spouse’s name. Older newspaper notices were not always labeled as obituaries.

Find Wichita Cemetery and Burial Records

Wichita Park Maintenance: 316-350-3171

How to locate a burial

Read the individual obituary. Copy the full cemetery name and burial date if listed.
Open Wichita’s official cemetery page. Choose Highland or Jamesburg only if the person is known to be buried there.
Review the burial-record PDFs. Search for the person’s surname and any available section or block information.
Check the cemetery map. Use the section or block reference to identify the approximate location.
Call if the result is unclear. Ask Park Maintenance to clarify records or the appropriate contact for site information.
City of Wichita Official Cemetery Records Highland and Jamesburg burial-record PDFs, maps and contact information.
Do not assume the cemetery: Jackson Mortuary does not necessarily use one burial site. A family may choose a private cemetery, a different Kansas city or an out-of-state burial location.

Sedgwick County Medical Examiner: Pending Deaths and Reports

When the Regional Forensic Science Center or District Coroner is involved, a death investigation may continue after funeral arrangements have begun.

Sedgwick County explains that autopsies and related examinations are paid for with public funds in cases under its jurisdiction. Families should coordinate release and arrangements with the chosen funeral home.

Useful Sedgwick County steps

  • Choose the funeral home handling final arrangements.
  • Notify the Coroner’s Office of the selected funeral provider when instructed.
  • Have the funeral director submit the required release authorization.
  • Ask whether the cause or manner of death is pending.
  • Use the state Vital Statistics office for completed death certificates.
  • Use the proper court or coroner records process for a final autopsy report.

Official contacts

Sedgwick County Coroner / Regional Forensic Science Center: 316-660-4800

Sedgwick County District Court Clerk: 316-660-5900

Research feature: Sedgwick County operates a Medical Examiner Report Search for qualifying records beginning January 1, 2022. It is not an unrestricted obituary directory.

Respect the family’s privacy: Do not speculate publicly about a person’s cause of death based on a pending investigation, obituary wording or the absence of an official report.

Wichita Funeral Cost Assistance: What Families Should Know

Before choosing a funeral or cremation package, compare written prices and check whether any government, veteran, insurance, charitable or other benefit applies.

What Sedgwick County’s indigent disposition process covers

Sedgwick County’s Regional Forensic Science Center provides final disposition for certain unclaimed deceased persons under the county coroner’s jurisdiction when no family member or concerned party claims the remains.

This is a government procedure for qualifying unclaimed remains. It is not a general funeral reimbursement program for every household that cannot afford arrangements.

Avoid a costly assumption: Do not interpret the county’s indigent-cremation procedure as a public grant available to all low-income families. Ask the appropriate county agency about the particular circumstances before relying on any assistance.

Practical ways to reduce funeral expenses

Compare direct options

Ask for the full price of direct cremation or immediate burial, including required transportation and permits.

Separate outside expenses

Ask about cemetery plots, opening and closing, memorial markers, flowers and printed newspaper notices.

Review insurance and benefits

Check whether the deceased had a life insurance policy, prepaid plan or qualifying veteran benefit.

Request written prices

Use the funeral home’s General Price List to compare only the services the family wants.
